Fighting Stigma
Breaking the silence about abortion in Ireland means challenging taboos. Stigmatising abortion stigmatises all crisis pregnancies and paralyses the community’s response.
Abortion happens; it is restricted to those who somehow manage to pay for it. All we do by forcing women out of the country to end their pregnancies, is to subsidise the airlines and ferries that carry them-sometimes at a stage of pregnancy that brings unnecessary risk to their lives.
Shame and stigma keeps women in their place: out of sight, out of mind, or so it is hoped. We aim to break the silence and fight the stigma of abortion in Ireland.
