Raising Awareness
The Safe and Legal (in Ireland) Abortion Rights Campaign seeks to raise awareness on the issue of abortion so that we can have a calm and rational dialogue on the reality of abortion for Irish women.
The UN Committee on the Convention on the Elimination of Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW) which examined Ireland’s record in 2005 has called for a national dialogue to take place.
At least fifteen Irish women make the journey every day to obtain an abortion in Britain, and to Belgium and the Netherlands. Most are accompanied by a friend or relative.
Every day people’s sisters, mothers, wives and girlfriends make the journey to have an abortion outside of Ireland for many different reasons.
We aim to raise awareness about this women’s health issue.
